Private Pilot Course
Our goal at National Helicopters is to help you achieve your dream of becoming a private helicopter pilot. Whether you intend to embark on an aviation career or simply fly for leisure, we can help you get started.
Prerequisites:
- An applicant must be a Canadian citizen, landed immigrant, or a person
lawfully admitted to Canada for flight training.
- An applicant may commence flight training at any age, but must be 16
years of age prior to firstsolo and 17 years of age for the issue of a private
licence - helicopter.
- Prior to first solo, an applicant must successfully complete a medical
examination by a transportCanada approved medical doctor.
Private Pilot Licence - Helicopter:
Privileges:
- The Holder of a Private Pilot Licence - Helicopter May Act as
Pilot-in-Comand or Co-Pilot of a Helicopter For Which The
Licence Is Endorsed.
Valid For:
- 5 Years if holder is under 40.
2 Year if holder is 40 or over.
Knowledge:
- 40 hrs of ground school
- Pass 100 question multiple choice exam obtaining at least 60% in
each of 4 subject areas as well as 60% in the overall exam.
Experience:
- Minimum 45 hrs total helicopter time; with
Minimum 17 hrs dual flight time - including 5 hrs of instrument flight
time and 3 hrs of cross-country flight time.
- Minimum 12 hrs solo flight time - including 5 hrs of cross-country
flight time with 1 cross-country flight of not less than 100 nautical
miles and 2 full stop landings at points other than the point of
departure.
Skill:
- Pass a flight test of approximately 1.5 hrs
Private Alternate Category - Helicopter:
Eligibility:
- You must hold a valid Private or Commercial Licence - Aeroplane
Valid For:
- Same as the Private Licence - Helicopter
Privileges:
- Same as the Private Licence - Helicopter
Knowledge:
- 20 hrs of ground school
- Pass 30 question multiple choice (PHRAC) exam obtaining at
least 60%.
Experience:
- Minimum 30 hrs total helicopter time; with
- Minimum 17 hrs dual flight time - including 5 hrs of instrument flight
time and 3 hrs of cross-country flight time.
- Minimum 8 hrs solo flight time - including 3 hrs of cross-country
flight time with 1 cross-country flight of not less than 100 nautical
miles and 2 full stop landings at points other than the point of
departure.
Skill:
- Pass a flight test of approximately 1.5 hrs
