Commercial Pilot Course
Prerequisites:
- An applicant must be a Canadian citizen, landed immigrant, or a person
lawfully admitted to Canada for flight training.
- An applicant may commence flight training at any age, but must be 16
years of age prior to first solo and 17 years of age for the issue of a
private licence - helicopter.
- Prior to first solo, an applicant must successfully complete a medical
examination by a transportCanada approved medical doctor.
Commercial Pilot License - Helicopter:
- Age: Minimum 18
- Medical: Minimum Category 1
- Valid For: 1 Year if holder is under 40.
6 Months if holder is 40 or over.
Privileges:
- A) The Holder of a Commercial Pilot Licence - Helicopter
May Exercise The Privileges of a Private Helicopter Licence; and
- B) For The Purpose of Providing a Commercial Air Service,
- i) Act as Pilot-in-Command of a Helicopter For Which
The Licence is Endorsed That is Not Required to be
Operated by More Than One Pilot, and
- ii) Act as Co-Pilot of a Helicopter of Any Type For Which
The Licence is Endorsed..
Knowledge:
- 80 hrs of ground school
- Pass 100 question multiple choice exam obtaining at least
60% in each of 4 subject areas as well as 60% in the overall exam.
Experience:
- Minimum 100 hrs total helicopter time; with Minimum 55 hrs
dual flight time - including 10 hrs of instrument flight time and
5 hrs of cross-country flight time.
- Minimum 35 hrs solo flight time - including 10 hrs of cross-country
flight time with 1 cross-country flight of not less than 2 hrs flight
time from the point of departure and 3 full stop landings at points
other than the point of departure.
Skill:
- Pass a flight test of approximately 1.5 hrs
Commercial Alternate Category - Helicopter:
- Age: Same as Commercial Licence - Helicopter
- Valid For: Same as Commercial Licence - Helicopter
Privileges:
- Same as Commercial Licence - Helicopter
Knowledge:
- 20 hrs of ground school
- Pass 30 question multiple choice (CHRAC) exam by obtaining
at least 60%.
Experience:
- Minimum 60 hrs total helicopter time; with Minimum 37 hrs
dual flight time - including 10 hrs of instrument flight time and 5 hrs
of cross-country flight time.
- Minimum 23 hrs solo flight time -
including 10 hrs of cross-country flight time with 1 cross-country
flight of not less than 2 hours flight time from the point of departure
and 3 full stop landings at points other than the point of departure.
Skill:
- Pass a flight test of approximately 1.5 hrs
